Today, most moissanite used in jewelry is lab-grown and is a popular diamond alternative. Moissanite was first mistaken for a diamond due to their similarities in appearance like brilliance and high refractive index. Unlike a diamond, moissanite has a 9.25 hardness on the Mohs scale. In contrast, a diamond ranks at 10, which makes moissanite less durable than a diamond, however, 9.25 still gives moissanite an excellent hardness for everyday wear and durability.
